PhotoHunt: View

The views I like the best are the ones without platforms. Without man-made zones and protections so that tour buses can pull up and dump hundreds of camera-clad tourists and have their arses protected from possible lawsuits when some fat middle-aged lard stumbles on a rock and holy shit! has an encounter with nature.

I like to feel like an explorer. I like to feel that I own the experience I have with nature, not that I'm sharing it with hundreds of lardassed pretenders who are really only waiting for the next McDonalds atrocity to roll on by. I like to stand on the edge, with no platform as a barrier between me and the experience, and feel part of the danger, the raw, the wildness of it all.

The person in this picture is EspressoHead, who is shortly going to abdicate to the mossier pastures offered in Ireland. Remember these places, dude. They're all part of who you are.

Stunning...a view of someone looking at the view. A great shot. You have done very nice work with this theme!

Excellent view shot for the theme today! I don't like when the view shot is cordoned off at all!

Well done... so true, all you said... well, except, maybe, when you're standing on a train track with no place to go when the train comes full speed ahead, eh...

Terrific shot!

I like raw encounters with nature too. Here in my country, every tourist spot, even those of nature, has been tempered with. Nice shots and thoughts on your blog too!

Woah! I get the feeling from Espressohead's blog that she was a normal (at least in size) human being, but now you reval that she's like five hundred feet tall!
I LOVE the way this photo plays tricks with my depth perception, Vic.
And that's a great hat, by the way.
Tell D she's welcome at my place whenever she wants to cross the Irish Sea.

What a great shot Vic! You're very talented indeed!

I will enjoy the moss in the most greenest parts of Ireland... However the joy of your randomness, artistic ability, exploratory mind and company in general will be missed greatly =(

Oh, and Dive; Ill be in London for New Year's...

...with my hat =)

Lucy - Cheers, but I had to rely on an older photo I'd taken to do it!

Sammawow - It's not so much the shot that I'm after. The shot is a peripheral to the actual experience. But I get what you mean. Thanks!

Mistyeiz - It is like being on top of the world, indeed. And the good thing is that you don't have to climb, you actually just walk from a road out onto the edge. This place is in the Blue Mountains, NSW, just west of Sydney.

JC - True what you said about the train tracks! I've been on a little maintenance platform off a train bridge when one came past, just to photograph it. It was one of the most frightening experiences I've ever had.

Sho - Thanks for your comments about my thoughts, they're much appreciated. Cheers!

Dive and EspressoHead - Kate and I have decided that we're extremely jealous!

Dive, thanks for your comments on my picture. The whole place played tricks on our depth perception. I don't think anything could come close to conveying how dwarfed we were by the place. It's just a brilliant spot to happen across.

EspressoHead - remember a lot of the time that we catch up is online anyway, so I don't think that aspect is going to change much. I'll miss you heaps also, chook. You're a great person to bounce off. Intelligent, articulate, open and expressive. You're awesome, dude.

Terroni - Thanks, mate! Hope you're well.
